Abstract

This paper clarifies the historical and cultural background for a related one entitled Mary as Ecclesia and the Cintola (Girdle) of the Pisa Cathedral, in Voilé-Dévoilé. Le rideau dans la culture chrétienne de l'Antiquité & du Moyen Âge, eds. E. Palazzo, L.-J. Bord, V. Debiais, Parigi, 2017, forthcoming. They both explore the idea of Mary as Ecclesia, container and spouse of Christ and the faithful.
