Abstract
This paper clarifies the historical and cultural background for a related one entitled Mary as Ecclesia and the Cintola (Girdle) of the Pisa Cathedral, in Voilé-Dévoilé. They both explore the idea of Mary as Ecclesia, container and spouse of Christ and the faithful.
