We present in this paper the first assessment of the importance of Q factor in cycling efficiency and muscular activation. We demonstrate that Q factor has a small but significant effect of efficiency, therefore providing a new avenue to improve this crucial aspect of cycling performance. This paper has attracted the attention of at least one professional cycling team who wants to implement tome of our findings.
