Abstract

Thermal oxidation of CPTi and Ti6Al4V alloy with gold pre-deposition at high temperatures was carried out. Pre-deposited gold can promote the formation of a thicker oxide layer and more absorption of oxygen compared with conventional thermal oxidation. Further investigations show that the existence of the thin gold layer is beneficial for the outward diffusion of titanium during thermal oxidation. The mechanisms of thermal oxidation of titanium alloys with gold is discussed.
