Abstract

This paper analyses the way in which, when urban wastelands are left unused, the initial relationships between the owner and the municipality become more complex. The opportunities offered by brownfield sites favour their appropriation by individuals or associations, with or without cultural goals. This process creates new forms of territorial regulation. Such change will be discussed through two case-studies : the “Flon” in Lausanne and the “Belle de Mai” in Marseilles, which share similarities in spite of their differences.
