Abstract

This paper is focused on system performance studies in RTDS for a complex power network with multiple FACTS devices (Series Capacitors). In particular, the transient studies for large disturbances within power network are carried out. The main objectives are to 1) evaluate dynamic performance of TCSC with difference control modes: Impedance Control Mode & Current Control Mode in the events of large disturbances within the AC network; 2) evaluate the impacts of TCSC on dynamic performance of the electricity transmission network. Detailed RTDS simulation results of the case studies are presented to illustrate system performance and the potential risks when FACTS devices are introduced into the electricity transmission network.
