Abstract

This paper reports the synthesis and conductivities of the gallium containing systems La0.9-xPrxBa1.1GaO 3.95 and Nd0.9Ba1.1GaO3.95. Measurements in dry atmospheres show a p-type contribution to the conductivity, while a comparison between dry and wet atmospheres shows evidence for proton conduction. Examination of the series La0.9-xPrxBa 1.1GaO3.95. indicates that the level of electronic conductivity increases with increasing praseodymium content, such that for high Pr levels this appears to dominate the conductivity. In terms of proton conductivity, the sample La0.7Pr0.2Ba 1.1GaO3.95 showed promising characteristics with a conductivity of ≈ 3 × 10-4S cm-1 at 500°C in wet atmospheres.
