Abstract

This chapter sets out to provide guidance on symptom management. The chapter starts by focusing on identifying children who need palliative care before exploring the assessment and management of some of the common symptoms including fatigue, gastrointestinal symptoms, respiratory symptoms, symptoms found in children and young people with neurological impairment living with palliative care needs, and, finally, pain. The complexities of the assessment and management process are explored. Consideration is given to both non-pharmacological and pharmacological interventions in children's palliative care.
