Abstract

Solidification in the Ni-base superalloy, IN713LC has been quantitatively characterised using an enthalpy-based method. Enthalpy and specific heat capacity were extracted from differential thermal analysis (DTA) experiments. Solidification sequence and freezing kinetics were subsequently deduced from the extracted enthalpy and heat capacity data. Implications to last stage solidification in the case of equiaxed solidification have been addressed.
