Abstract

Simultaneous indoor-outdoor air quality (AQ) monitoring provides a holistic understanding of the factors influencing indoor environments and their potential implications for human health. We employed a robust methodology to comprehensively assess AQ in a number of locations including a typical university office space as part of the MetOffice/Strategic Priorities Fund (SPF) project “Indoor Air Quality Emissions and Modelling System (IAQ-EMS)”. Using state-of-the-art instruments at the University of Birmingham's mobile supersite, we measured particulate matter (PM), non-refractory PM2.5, black carbon (BC), particle size distributions, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), ozone (O3), nitrogen oxides (NOx) and carbon monoxide (CO), both indoors and outdoors. This project provides one of the first comprehensive online measurements of air composition from both indoor and outdoor environments.
