Abstract
This article examines the election of Donald Trump and argues that we can explain it, in part, as the result of long term deflection on the part of liberal democrats. We suggest that an unwillingness to deal with the ravages of neoliberalism and the impact of U.S. imperialism created an environment which fostered Trump and Trumpianism. We conclude with an exploration of the kinds of solidarity possible through reflective politics.
