Abstract

A novel technique for reducing the electromagnetic coupling between closely spaced MIMO antenna arrays on a compact ground plane is presented. The proposed ground plane introduces pairs of miniaturised convoluted slits between two PIFAs resulting in a significant reduction of the mutual coupling within their operating frequency band. The proposed slits have a small footprint and are positioned close to the edges of the ground plane thereby occupying very little space. Different configurations of the PIFAs are studied and results obtained in 3D electromagnetic simulation software (CST Microwave studio) are presented.
