Abstract

The uniform theory of diffraction (UTD) propagation of the scattering by a tiled right-angled pitched building roof is modeled as a resistive wedge using the Sommerfeld-Maliuzhinets method. The transmitted field through the roof substantially changes the total scattered field pattern in the shadow region. The resistive wedge represents a suitable canonical geometry for modeling the roof. A solid impedance wedge does not correctly model the hollow roof, especially in the shadow region where the underprediction is in excess of 10 dB.
