Abstract
A sample of πβ’π collision data, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.5ββfbβ1 and collected by the LHCb experiment during LHC Run 2, is used to measure the ratio of the lifetime of the Ξβπ baryon to that of the Ξ0π baryon, ππβ‘πΞβπ/πΞ0π. The value ππ=1.076Β±0.013Β±0.006 is obtained, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic. This value is averaged with the corresponding value from Run 1 to obtain πRunβ1,2π=1.078Β±0.012Β±0.007. Multiplying by the world-average value of the Ξ0
π lifetime yields πRunβ1,2Ξβπ=1.578Β±0.018Β±0.010Β±0.011ββps, where the uncertainties are statistical, systematic, and due to the limited knowledge of the Ξ0π lifetime. This measurement improves the precision of the current world average of the Ξβπ lifetime by about a factor of 2, and is in good agreement with the most recent theoretical predictions.
