Observation of ๐ต+๐‘ โ†’๐ทโขโ„Ž+โกโ„Žโˆ’ Decays

Abstract

Searches are presented for ๐ต+๐‘ โ†’๐ทโขโ„Ž+โกโ„Žโˆ’ decays, where ๐ท is a charmed meson and โ„Žยฑ is a charged pion or kaon, using ๐‘โข๐‘ collision data collected by the LHCb experiment corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9โ€‰โ€‰fbโˆ’1. The decays ๐ต+๐‘ โ†’๐ท+โข๐พ+โข๐œ‹โˆ’, ๐ต+๐‘ โ†’๐ท*+โข๐พ+โข๐œ‹โˆ’, and ๐ต+๐‘ โ†’๐ท+๐‘ โข๐พ+โข๐พโˆ’ are observed for the first time. Their branching fractions, expressed as ratios relative to that of the ๐ต+๐‘ โ†’๐ต0๐‘ โข๐œ‹+ decay, are determined to be โ„›โก(๐ต+๐‘โ†’๐ท+โข๐พ+โข๐œ‹โˆ’) = (1.96 ยฑ 0.23 ยฑ 0.08 ยฑ 0.10) ร— 10โˆ’3, โ„›โก(๐ต+๐‘โ†’๐ท*+โข๐พ+โข๐œ‹โˆ’) = 3.67 ยฑ 0.55 ยฑ 0.24 ยฑ 0.20) ร— 10โˆ’3, โ„›โก(๐ต+๐‘โ†’๐ท+๐‘ โข๐พ+โข๐พโˆ’) = 1.61 ยฑ 0.35 ยฑ 0.13 ยฑ 0.07) ร— 10โˆ’3, where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second is systematic, and the third is due to the limited precision on the ๐ท-meson branching fractions. The decay channels proceed primarily through excited ๐พ0 or ๐ท0 resonances or ๐œ™ mesons, and open a new avenue for studies of charge-parity violation in beauty mesons.
