Abstract

This article evaluates evaluate the performance of a multibistatic system for space situational awareness (SSA) mission. In particular, a simulation tool has been developed to test the performance in different scenarios to evaluate the feasibility of such a system. Such a tool is an efficient way either to support the design of new systems or to understand whether existing systems could be used to perform different missions with respect to the one they are designed for. The ‘Scenario and Requirements’ section of the article introduces the main user and system requirements and scenarios in which the proposed system should operate. “Multibistatic Radar for SST” describes the high-level architecture of the proposed system. ‘Signal Processing’ details the overall signal processing chain and its main components, namely the detection, the tracking, and the orbit propagation blocks. The section ‘Performance Prediction’ presents the simulation results and the final conclusions.
