Abstract

During an attempt to synthesize polyrotaxanes by Wittig step-growth polymerization between a dibenzylic bis(triphenylphosphonium)-stoppered [2]rotaxane, with an NH2+ recognition site encircled by a DB24C8 ring, and appropriate derivatives of terephthalde-hyde carrying bulky groups, large macrocyclic compounds with the topologies of catenanes and molecular-necklaces, are formed.
