Abstract
The paper focuses on the policies towards Ukrainian displaced people in Russia between 2014 and 2021 that developed from the privileging conditions in receiving temporal asylum, and later unprecedented fast-track citizenship. I argue that such policies employed rhetoric of ‘rescuing’ ‘brotherly nation’ and ‘the same people’ which was later was used in Russian official media and state rhetoric justifying the Russia’s geopolitical aims in Ukraine.
