Abstract

This chapter sets out how to design, deliver and evaluate children's palliative nursing care programmes of learning in an educational, clinical or other setting at the Core level. The programmes of learning are for those nurses who deliver care to children, some of whom might require palliative care, and their families and it is essential to ensure exemplary nursing practice. The need to tailor bespoke interprofessional palliative care education, training and curriculum to local need is recognised and should cover the whole age range; from neonates to young people transitioning to adult care services. The process of designing programmes of learning is explored, such as ensuring the identified learning outcomes are aligned with the learning activities and assessment of learning. It is also important that the learning environment facilitates activities that enable the identified learning outcomes to be met. Modes of delivery that promote accessibility are discussed and the exemplar development of an online module is outlined. The final section examines processes for evaluating training and learning to ensure they are fit for purpose and to inform future practice. This chapter details the steps in developing effective children's palliative nursing care education and training in any setting.
