Abstract
Between 2011-2015, I taught a module in Cold War film and was continually struck by how similar contemporary US political posturing and rhetoric was to that allegedly bygone era. There are many movies from the Cold War period that would have worked here, but Lady and the Tramp - and this scene in particular, with its themes of legitimacy, licensing, immigration, incarceration and invocation of 'home' - made for a perfect juxtaposition with the words of Donald Trump.
