The challenge as ever for historians has been one of available sources and in recent years historians of education have made inventive uses of oral histories, images, material culture, and anthropological techniques. They have additionally pushed the issue of sources beyond common historical practice to examine the fields of knowledge production and consumption, the uncertainties of memory, and psychological studies.
