title = "In the Forest of Long Waiting:: Charles d'Orl{\'e}ans and the Querelle de la Belle dame sans mercy",
abstract = "This article examines the image of the forest both as a metaphor for the unknown aspects of the self and the mind, and as a locus of loss and longing in fifteenth-century poetry and prose, particularly the work of Charles d'Orl{\'e}ans and his circle, and some of the texts which make up the 'Querelle de la Belle dame sans mercy'. Based on this analysis, together with fresh codicological analysis of some of the earliest surviving Alain Chartier manuscripts, it advances a possible new dating and provenance for some parts of the 'Querelle'.",
