Abstract

This paper considers the kinds of information concerning English idioms that is available on the web, particularly the material provided on non-lexicographical websites and that provided in establishment dictionaries for learners. After looking at a sample of webpages and the idioms they list, it then examines two idioms as case studies, summarizing corpus evidence and comparing webpage treatments with those in web versions of six learners’ dictionaries. The paper concludes by discussing some further web treatments and then more general implications.
