Abstract

A growing number of antiviral agents are available for treatment of persistent viral infections. This has increased the requirment for virology laboratories to undertake sophisticated assays for monitoring the efficacy of treatment and identifying drug failure at an early stage. The consensus guidelines within this article address the laboratory requirements for monitoring treatment of the herpes viruses, HIV-1, Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C. (C) 2002 Elsevier Science B.V.
