title = "Gobalisation, e-Arabic: the emergence of a new language at the literal and figurative levels",
abstract = "This paper highlights both the direct and indirect influences of globalisation in general, and Information Technology (IT) morphemes, words and phrases in particular, not only at the literal level, but also the metaphorical one. The language I shed light on is what I call (e-Arabic) used on the internet and mobile phones. This language made its way to both the spoken and written form, including the traditional Arabic literature to bring about a {"}new{"} Arabic literary genre from blogs and emails. Data is collected using corpora made of 150 million word internet based corpus, semi structured interviews and observation in Arab countries. Publications from blogs and emails are used as evidence to support arguments. Results reveal that Arabic is changing as a result of globalisation and is happening at all levels both literally and figuratively. The latter is done without being noticed as much as the literal form of the language.",
