Gender Displaced: Syrian and Iraqi Refugees in Europe and the Middle East

Yafa Shanneik

Research output: Book/ReportBook

Abstract

The book focuses on refugees’ own experiences of and perspectives on host countries’ policies and in particular gendered humanitarian aid programmes. It sheds new light on gendered power dynamics within conflict-induced displacement contributing to debates regarding humanitarian and state interventions on displaced people from the Middle East. Gender Displaced is based on multi-sited fieldwork conducted in the UK, Germany and Jordan. Employing interdisciplinary research approaches, the book examines how global gender norms, such as those defined by UN conventions, shape international humanitarian and state interventions in displacement contexts and how refugees challenge these norms.
