Abstract
In six international case studies, the contributors examine a trope that is a key part of environmental discourse—alarmism. In the ongoing debate over climate change, horror scenarios are abundant but increasingly ineffectual. This volume argues that in each instance discussed, the consistent outcome is that people ignored long-term large-scale problems, choosing instead to focus on impending disasters.
