Abstract

We have studied the effect of pressure in the filled skutterudite PrRuP, which shows a metal-insulator (MI) transition at T = 63 K, via simultaneous measurements of electrical resistivity (ρ) and AC-calorimetry (C). Schottky-like anomalies in C disappear under pressure, suggesting a change of the ground state. The resistivity below T is strongly suppressed with increasing pressure, in contrast to the weak pressure dependence of T. Above 10 GPa, ρ (T) shows metallic behavior with small anomalies at T. We discuss the likely change of ground state in PrRuP with pressure from triplet to singlet.
