Abstract
This article emphasizes that references to the sons of Zadok are now heavily outnumbered by a very large number of references to the sons of Aaron especially in the more recently published Cave 4 manuscripts. After a survey of all the occurrences of the designation the sons of Zadok in the non-biblical Scrolls it is argued that the sons of Zadok are found in two rather limited contexts: in exegetical contexts referring to the community as a whole and as community leaders in the Scroll made up of 1QS-1QSa-1QSb. The elevated claims made on behalf of this group in the limited number of places where they occur have successfully obscured the relatively scarce and localized profile of references.
