Abstract
The trends of digital transformation have changed the micro-foundations of operational capabilities around individuals, processes and structures. This paper explores such changes through case studies from the aerospace, heavy engineering, information technology and pharmaceutical sectors. In doing so, this paper develops a theoretical model suggesting four types of operational capabilities for digital transformation based on interactions of the micro-foundation components. These capabilities, with a specific focus on learning behaviours and decision-making styles within integrated physical and virtual network structures, will guide managers to cope with new challenges and opportunities for operations and supply chain management in the future.
