Abstract

We report measurements of the electrical and magnetic properties of bilayers of YBa2Cu3O7 (YBCO) and La2/3Ca1/3MnO3 (LCMO) deposited on SrTiO3 substrates by Pulsed Laser Deposition. We find distinct differences in the properties depending on the order of the deposition, with the lower layer always being degraded. In particular, the YBCO has a T-c suppressed to similar to 60 K when it is covered by LCMO. We argue that the effect is not due to an electronic interaction, but results from a reduction in the oxygen content of the YBCO by the LCMO. (C) 2004 WILEY VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim.
