Definitive and Probabilistic Impact Assessment of Solar and Wind Power Generation on Reliability Improvement of Power System-Iran Case Study

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingConference contribution

Abstract

Reliability calculation is an important tool for the planning and operation of power systems. The high penetration of wind and solar resources and the uncertainties in output generation level of such resources can cause problems in utilizing a network based on these resources and reducing its reliability level. Distributed generation units can have positive effects, including the reliability improvement of the power system, depending on the characteristics of the technology and the location of the network. This study investigates the effects of wind and solar power generation on the reliability characteristics of the practical and environmental situation of Sirjan city in Iran applied in a test power system. The reliability indicators studied in the paper include the loss of load probability (LOLP), loss of load expectation (LOLE), and expected energy not served (EENS).
