Abstract

This paper presents recent results on cylindrical and conformai omni-directional resonant cavity antennas incorporating passive periodic surfaces. Cylindrical patch antennas are used in the proposed designs as a new feeding mechanism that produces completely omni-directional (azimuth plane) resonant cavity antenna designs with directive elevation patterns. In addition, a significant reduction of the antenna diameter is reported by means of incorporating an additional cylindrical periodic surface that performs as a high-impedance ground.
