Abstract
This article corrects International Journal of Wildland Fire (2026) 35, WF25224. DOI: https://doi.org/10.1071/WF25224
The authors have noticed some errors in the text of the published paper which is regretted.
The incorrect acronym ‘PFO’ (Prescribed Fire Operator) occurs on pages 2, 11 and 12 where it should read ‘PFM’ (Prescribed Fire Manager), and the word ‘Operator’ should in fact be ‘Manager’.
The authors would like to amend some of the text in the published paper due to their political sensitivity as follows.
The incorrect sentence in the Introduction on page 1:
Now reads:
Concerns over unintended fire spread and peat ignition generating smouldering of underlying peat during PBs has led to a ban (unless an explicit exception is issued) in England on burning vegetation over peat deeper than 30 cm (Defra 2025).
The correct sentence should read:
Concerns over unintended fire spread and peat ignition generating smouldering of underlying peat during PBs has led to burning on peat more than 30 cm in depth (in England) becoming unlawful unless carried out under the terms of a license issued by The Secretary of State (Defra 2025).
In the Discussion section on page 10:
Incorrect sentence reads:
The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra 2007) indicates that ‘quick, cool burns’ should be conducted in order to not damage moss or litter layers, with recent Heather and Grass Burning (2025) legislation banning burning on deep peat (>0.3 m depth).
Should read:
The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra 2007) indicates that ‘quick, cool burns’ should be conducted in order to not damage moss or litter layers.
Authors would like to correct the sentence on Page 11:
Now reads:
‘This has since been extended with burning on peat deeper than 0.3 m now banned (Defra 2025).’
Should read:
‘This has since been extended with burning on peat deeper than 0.3 m, now being unlawful in England without license (Defra 2025).’
