Abstract

Qualitative methodologies are a consistent feature of many studies in economic geography. In particular, corporate interviewing has been utilised as a means of accessing a more detailed and situated understanding of practices of economic change within firms, sectors and regions. The role of the corporate interview within manufacturing industries has not been widely discussed, yet the characteristics of the sector influence the fieldwork process and accessibility of firms, actors and knowledge. Social media and networking tools are part of the current research environment and critical for accessing organisations in all sectors of the economy. This chapter explores approaches to accessing corporate elites to undertake interviews by drawing upon social media and networking tools. A framework to guide the process of accessing corporate elites is developed and explored.
