Abstract

An analysis of the C-12(C-12, (3)alpha)C-12 reaction ismade at beam energies of 104 and 106 MeV. An examination of the correlations of the three alpha-particles produced by the decay of the 7.65 MeV (0(+)) and 9.64 MeV (3(-)) states to Be-8(gs) + alpha and the 14.08 MeV (4(+)) and 12.71 MeV (1(+)) states to Be-8(2(+)) + alpha has been used to probe for the presence of both the effects of quantum statistics of the bosonic system and Coulomb repulsion in the relative velocity spectra of the three finalstate alpha-particles. The data are compared with uncorrelated data produced via event mixing. Such effects could in principle be used to determine the size of the emitting state. No strong effect is observed.
