Abstract

This paper presents an accurate analysis technique for designing broadband high-gain 2-D Fabry-Perot Leaky-Wave Antennas (LWA) consisting of two periodic metallodielectric arrays over a ground plane. Full-wave method of moments (MoM) is employed for the estimation of the near fields upon plane wave illumination and reciprocity is applied for the extraction of the radiation and directivity patterns of the LWA. The tool is proved to be fast and accurate for the characterisation of this type of antennas. A series of numerical examples are given in order to demonstrate the technique and to prove the improvement in the antenna bandwidth. The technique is corroborated using commercial software (CST Microstripes™ 2009). Furthermore, initial experimental results of a fabricated prototype are presented.
