Abstract
The range of insects used in archaeoentomology is discussed, along with the discipline's broad aims. Sampling, extraction, and the depositional histories of insect remains in the archaeological record are outlined. The common methods of identification, quantification, and analysis are reviewed and future prospects for the discipline explored.
