Abstract

Purpose - The purpose of this paper is to discuss the application of computational intelligence techniques to the field of industrial robot control. Design/methodology/approach - The core ideas behind using neural computation, evolutionary computation, and fuzzy logic techniques are presented, along with a selection of specific real-world applications. Findings - Their practical advantages and disadvantages relative to more traditional approaches are made clear. Originality/value - The reader will appreciate the power of computational intelligence techniques for industrial robot control, and hopefully be encouraged to explore further the possibility of using them to achieve improved performance in their own applications.
