Abstract
This paper presents an analytical model for predicting the critical stress of distortional buckling of cold-formed steel sections. Closed-form expressions are derived and validated by using the finite-strip method. Comprehensive comparisons are made between several alternative methods for determining the minimum elastic distortional buckling stress for zed and sigma sections, which demonstrates that the present model provides a good prediction of the distortional buckling stress, despite its simplicity.
