Abstract
This chapter represents the first sustained attempt to describe and analyse the impacts which the development and expansion of printing in the late fifteenth and early sixteenth centuries had on the transmission and reception of the works of Alain Chartier. It uncovers and discusses evidence for Chartier's popularity among early printers in a wide range of local contexts, and it argues that there was significant crossover between manuscript and print media in terms of their presentation, packaging and marketing of Chartier's French-language works.
