Abstract

Geoscientists have a key role to play in the grand challenges of the 21st Century, but our subject has not addressed the legacy of the past when it comes to diversity and inclusion. Data on diversity in geoscience postgraduate research at UK universities reveals a similarly bleak picture of ethnic minority representation to that at US universities. We outline steps that institutions can take to break down barriers that have made the geosciences amongst the worst for racial minority representation, and to make our discipline equitable.
