Abstract

(Figure Presented) Getting organized: A free [2]catenane and its copper complex having forklike mesogens form nanosegregated liquid-crystalline (LC) structures over wide temperature ranges. The ordered arrangement of the free [2]catenane in the LC smectic A phase exerts a significant effect on the conformation of the two macrocycles, which is fixed in the ordered assembled state (see picture).
