Abstract

The obesity epidemic has become a major challenge to global and Chinese public health. The World Obesity Report 2024 (hereinafter referred to as the Report) released by the World Obesity Federation shows the latest data and trends on global overweight and obesity, and calls for inter-departmental collaboration to address the obesity problem. This study interprets the Report, revealing the severe situation of global overweight and obesity, the trend of spreading to low- and middle-income countries and becoming younger, and the close connection between obesity and chronic diseases. Combined with the latest evidence from China's overweight and obesity research, this study explores the implications of the Report and World Obesity Day for China's obesity prevention and control work, and calls for addressing China's obesity challenges through building guidelines and consensus, promoting World Obesity Day-related activities in China, and strengthening multi-departmental collaboration and international cooperation, so as to help build a healthy China and a community with a shared future for human health.
