Abstract
The advancement of digital villages has catalyzed e-commerce into a formidable new economic force, with the industry's exorbitant urban costs for land and housing driving its expansion into rural hinterlands and urban fringes. This shift has given rise to a uniquely Chinese phenomenon: rural e-commerce clusters known as 'Taobao village', whose development has profoundly influenced rural spatial structure and transformation. Against this backdrop, this paper utilizes domestic core journal articles as data sources to systematically review, analyze, and summarize research themes, perspectives, and findings on the spatial transformation of Taobao villages within the context of the e-commerce economy. The findings indicate that: 1) Research on rural e-commerce with a spatial focus has emerged as a prominent topic within academia, accompanied by multi-level and multidisciplinary perspectives;2) Studies on rural spatial transformation due to Taobao village development have evolved through three distinct phases: market exploration, policy-driven development, and comprehensive innovation; 3) Disciplines such as economics, sociology, geography, and urban-rural planning have each contributed valuable insights to this field. This review offers a systematic, multidisciplinary framework for understanding rural spatial transformation in the digital era, providing theoretical foundations to broaden rural digitalization research and support the implementation of digital village development strategies.
