Harjinder Kaur Aujla has worked in mental health services for over 20 years and she is an accredited Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) projects. She is a mental health lecturer in School of Nursing and Midwifery at University of Birmingham. Her doctoral research area lies in the intersection of psychological well-being and domestic violence and abuse impacting women of Sikh heritage. Her groundbreaking paper in 2019 relates key literature to help understand and draw the spotlight on Sikh survivors in U.K. In 2019, she was co-winner of Keele excellence award for her contribution to university-wide race equality.
Her presence on picket lines, campaigning against austerity and demanding justice as a woman of Sikh heritage demonstrates her commitment to fight for fairness and seek justice. She is executive member of Sikhs in Academia and she has worked closely with Sikh Sanjog and Sikh Women’s Alliance to develop ethically approved research projects. She has two kids she looks after, whilst doing all above. We Sikh Women’s Alliance are proud to honour with our achievement award of “Sikh Woman of Substance 2024”.
