Tatiana Alvarado Barahona

Tatiana Alvarado Barahona is a prospective PhD candidate in Comparative Literature at the University of Birmingham, working on themes of memory, identity, and gender in twentieth- and twenty-first-century world literature. Her research explores intergenerational trauma, cultural memory, and narrative strategies in novels such as The Eight Life by Nino Haratischwili, Zuleikha by Guzel Yakhina, The Inhabited Woman by Gioconda Belli, and The House of the Spirits by Isabel Allende. She holds an MBA from INCAE Business School, a Master’s degree in Spanish and Hispanoamerican Literature from the University of Barcelona, and a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial and Business Management from UNITEC. Her academic work integrates narratology, postmemory studies, and trauma theory to examine how literature mediates historical experience and collective identity.

My research interests lie at the intersection of memory studies, narratology, and gender in contemporary world literature. I focus on how narratives of historical trauma—particularly in post-socialist and revolutionary contexts—shape cultural identity and intergenerational memory. I am especially interested in the ways novels mediate experiences of violence, displacement, and resistance through narrative form, and how postmemory and trauma frameworks illuminate the transmission of these experiences across generations.

I bring a strong interdisciplinary background to my research, combining training in literature, cultural studies, and strategic analysis and project management. I hold a Master’s degree in Spanish and Hispanoamerican Literature from the University of Barcelona, where I developed expertise in literary analysis and critical theory, as well as an MBA from INCAE Business School, which honed my skills in analytical thinking and structured research. My academic work has been enriched by additional courses in world literature and cultural studies, and Im currently doing research that integrates frameworks such as trauma theory, postmemory, and narratology.
