Dr Shoaib Sarfraz holds Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering from the University of Engineering and Technology Taxila, where he was awarded the Chancellor’s Gold Medal for best performance in the MSc degree program (2016). In 2021, he completed a PhD in Manufacturing from Cranfield University.
At present, Shoaib is an MTC Fellow at the University of Birmingham, where he focuses on developing innovative solutions to key challenges in implementing sustainable practices in manufacturing industries. In this role, he works closely and collaboratively with the Manufacturing Technology Centre (MTC) on the future of Sustainable Manufacturing.
Previously, he served as a Research Fellow at Cranfield University on the TransFIRe (Transforming Foundation Industries Research) project. His work focused on mapping resource use in UK foundation industries and transferring best practices in these industries to enhance resource use (energy, materials, water) and reduce negative environmental impacts in line with the Net Zero 2050 Agenda. Before joining TransFIRe, Shoaib worked with Grundfos in Denmark on the project “Ecodesign Tools for Data-Driven Sustainable Production of Circulation Pumps”.
Shoaib has published over 50 research papers in major international journals and internationally refereed conferences. He has supervised more than 20 Masters students to completion.
In 2015, UN member states agreed to 17 global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure prosperity for all. This person’s work contributes towards the following SDG(s):
