I supervise research students in long-form fiction and screenwriting, and I have an interest in writing for new forms (performance, live art, and for digital platforms).

My creative practice has developed out of public arts projects with a collaborative group called Haha. While I primarily write fiction, I make short films, and am currently writing a feature-length film and developing ideas for TV.
I write long-form fiction, most recently ‘The Kills’, which was accompanied, when published digitally, by related short films and audio projects.‘The Kills’ was longlisted for The Man Booker Prize in 2013, and shortlisted for the Gordon Burn Prize, the GC Prize, and the South Bank Arts Award.
I’m currently working on a series of novels, tentatively titled ‘Murmur’. I’m concurrently developing related projects - a feature film with Film 4, and a TV series - which extend ideas (and the timeline) from the novels. The starting point for the current work comes from broad research into 70-80’s protest groups in the UK and the US.
