Phillip Robbins works in the area of process understanding, particularly when linked to the fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) sector, with a focus on food and pharmaceuticals processing looking at fouling and cleaning (hygiene). In addition, he is interested in the modelling of heat and mass transfer problems and microbial growth.

Dr Robbins’s work focuses on system modelling, heat and mass transfer, high-shear blending, and fouling and cleaning. He currently co-supervises doctoral research on the following topics:

Product recovery and thin film cleaning in the FMCG industry
Pasteuriser fouling and cleaning
Supercritical water oxidation
Adhesion of biofilms
The use of electro hydrodynamics for producing mono-dispersed droplets
The effect of blending on inhalable drug performance
