Peter Jones is a leading member of the Birmingham team involved in the ALICE experiment at the CERN Large Hadron Collider. His research is concerned with the properties of matter as it would have existed a fraction of a second after the Big Bang.

His research spans the themes of: Jets in heavy ion collisions; strangeness production; and relativistic heavy ion collisions.

Dr Jones has supervised many research degrees in nuclear physics. Past doctoral researchers’ topics include:

Strange particle spectra in Pb-Pb collisions at CERN
Strange particle production in Au-Au collisions at RHIC
Strange particle production in p-p collisions at RHIC
A study of jets at the STAR experiment at RHIC
Neutral strange particle production in Cu-Cu collisions at RHIC
Transverse spin asymmetries in neutral strange particle production
A study of medium induced jet modification at RHIC
